Week 36: What did I do...

to be worthy of such a great friend?

Squeaker got an awesome birthday present from one of my most awesome friends.
It's a wonderfully cozy bike sweater!
With a perfect little hood and amazing little bicycles racing along the bottom.
Can you believe that she made up the bicycle design herself? I can, because she's awesomely amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

PS Amanda and I go to knitting together and this whole time she's been saying this sweater is for someone else! I'll admit that I was more than a little jealous of the other baby who was supposedly getting this sweater. Nice work Amanda :)

Candy corn coming soon!
Take care,
Kate

Week 35: Scary, but not too scary.

My whole hat making obsession began with the pumpkin hat I knit Squeaker to come home from the hospital in. Since it's been almost a year(!!), that hat is far too small and it's time for a new pumpkin hat. This week's hat is a super cute Jack O'Lantern hat!  Complete with scary--but not too scary--toothy grin and a perfect little stem.
I love how both the hat and the baby have a matching toothy grin.

We went to the local orchard today; naturally, we took advantage of the pumpkin/Squeaker photo ops.
I think this could be my favorite picture of this whole project!
 That's a huge pumpkin!
 Much more Squeaker's size.
A delicious snack after a hard day of modeling.

Take care!

Week 34: Baby Apple Hat

Really, I think the pictures speak for themselves. Wish me luck in about 10 hours when I will be trying to wrangle this little apple head onto a plane.

I'm working on this week's hat--another perfectly seasonal bit of produce. I'll be able to knit on the flight, right?

Take care!

Week 34 (and 35!): Fall is totally here.

I've been in denial. I don't want fall to be here. I'm not ready to let go of summer. I still want to go for long bike rides and play in the garden and to enjoy the sun being out at 8 or 9pm. Boo.

I do love fall though. All three of us--JM, Squeaker, and I have fall birthdays. I love the changing leaves, the pumpkins, the apples, and the return of the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. Mmmm.  Most of all, it's time to wear hats again!!  Squeaker has been doing a lot of modeling of hats, and not so much wearing of hats.

The three of us leave for Nashville tomorrow morning (at 5am, boo!) and I'm not sure I'll have a change to get up the pictures for this week. I'm going to try my best to get it done tonight but no promises. I can give you the verbal sneak peak though--Week 34 was a super cute, super sweet apple!  I was pretty excited because Squeaks wore it to daycare this morning--since it was only 33 degrees outside. Yikes.

Wait until you see pictures, it's great!  I haven't decided what kind of apple it is, maybe a Cortland? Or a Rome?  It's dark red--definitely not a red delicious though, that's the one kind of apple I don't like. And that's saying a lot because I love, love, love apples.  Just out of college I worked at Honey Hill Orchard for two autumns and it was one of my favorite jobs ever. I still have a secret dream of owning an orchard. Mostly because I would get to eat unlimited apples. I'm only a little embarrassed to say that I ate no less than 3 apples every day I worked there. They are the ones who introduced me to the amazing Honeycrisp apple. Ah, tasty memories.

Well, go eat an apple, enjoy some fall flavored coffee, and hopefully I have pictures tonight!
Take care,
Kate

Week 33: Who is Blackbeard's Favorite Star Wars Character?

Arrrrrh 2D2.  Hee hee. I didn't make that joke up, but JM did. He's quite proud of himself too.

Oh, but this week's hat is so cute!! It's the best in a while. I'm putting it in the top five.

I mean, who doesn't love a baby pirate?
Complete with eye patch, stylish earring, and a tie on the side.
Look out! It's a vegetable pirate!  He's come to steal all your kale!
Nah, he's just here to steal your heart.

My little scalywag.

Take care!

Week 32: Ode to Olive

Yes, I'm aware I'm way behind. I think most of the people who may read this blog know by now that we euthanized our kitty Olive 2 weeks ago. I didn't feel much like knitting that weekend and fell a little behind with my project. I'm almost caught up though.

My hat for last week is dedicated to our kitty. I got Olive when I was in college. She was 9 when I got her--her people didn't want her anymore because she was too much work. Other than being more than a little in love with her food bowl, I had nary an issue with her over the next 11 years. That's right, my old girl lived to the overripe age of 20. Pretty impressive. She was quite senile toward the end and we still think she never even realized there was a baby in the house.

Both of my cats are gray long-hairs, but Olive was downright puffy. The hat I made in her honor is pretty puffy too. I double stranded the yarn, using regular gray acrylic yarn and some super fuzzy gray mohair that JM and I got on our honeymoon in Ireland.
It is a pretty basic hat, plain stockinette with two cute little kitty ears.

I was a little worried Squeaker was going to light on fire--this hat is thick!  I think he was actually sweating when I took the hat off.

He did pose for one picture with our other kitty Twiggy. She was pretty indifferent about the whole thing.

This hat was my best way to pay my respects to a great friend that I cared for very much. Be at peace Olive my love.

I promise next week's hat will be cheerier. Here's the inspiration:
