Week 19: Is it cheating?

Is it cheating to make a reversible hat and call it two hats? JM says yes. I say no. For weeks 20 and 21, I have plans to make a reversible watermelon hat--shell on the outside, pink with seeds on the inside. I have been dreaming of an entire series of reversible hats, but I have been counting each complete set as two hats. Each one would have two separate patterns and could be knit independently if the artist so chose. JM says it only works if I actually knit each hat individually and stitch it together. I think that's ludicrous. What do you think, faithful readers?

Week 19's hat is in full swing. We're on our way out the door to a cookout and I hope to get some serious hat knitting done!

Take care,
Kate

Week 18: Asteraceae

I can't pronounce it, I don't know about you. That would be the scientific name of this week's hat though, the common daisy. I looked up "daisy" on wikipedia and found all sorts of interesting things! For example, I had no idea how many: actresses, characters, cities, and songs are either named Daisy or have daisy in the title.

I love this week's hat, it turned out so much cuter than I expected. This one was another homeless hat, but it was so lovely I decided to keep it for Squeaker. He already put it to work--he wore it while lounging in the stroller (as I worked in the garden).

Instead of separate petals like the bluebell hat, I knitted 4 petal ends, then connected them and used a little garter stitch to outline the shape.
It has the same kind of leaves as the previous 2 flower hats. I really like the way they look.

I made it using I nice cotton yarn--it's actually the leftover from Francine's Bunny Hat.
Now Squeaker and FranFran have sibling hats. I love that baby hats don't take much yarn!

So, so, so sweet!

Week 17: Not quite a tulip...

But still pretty cute. It turned out looking more like a fairy tale flower. I'm calling it a bluebell.
I don't know what I like best, the little curl at the end of the leaves......
 ...or the cute little top-knot.
This is my favorite picture of the Squeaker. What a heartbreaker.

This is another hat without a home! So I listed it on Etsy--we'll see if anything happens.

You know, just for fun.

So for this week I have plans to make a daisy hat. I'm hoping this one turns out to look like what I see in my head.

Take care,
Kate

Oinktacular!

Remember week 12? If not, click here for the reminder. I just got an email from the girls in charge of the pig out raffle, where my piggy hat was raffled off to a *hopefully* good home. They sent me pictures of my hat, front and center on the raffle table.

I love that you can see the "business" cards in the second picture. How cool! Thanks again to the PIG club for the pictures.

Take care,
Kate

Week 16: A rose by any other name....

April showers bring May flowers, or so they say. In our case, April showers seem to have brought May showers. In an attempt to bring some color into our lives, I decided to make Squeaker a flower hat. Specifically, week 16 was a rose hat.  I think it looks great.

It has an elegant spiral pattern that outlines the "petals."

And some nifty color work to show the leaves and stem.

 Oh, so, cute.
This is the first hat that doesn't have a designated recipient!  I decided to post the hat itself for sale on Etsy too. Here is the link for the hat:

You know, if you're interested.

I'm thinking of more flowers to come this month!  For week 17, I've been trying to figure out a tulip hat. I have some lovely lavender yarn that I think would look nice. I want to figure out how to knit up separate petals. I still need to ponder it some more. I'll keep you posted!

Take care!

Week 15: Summer must be coming soon.....

Hey Folks!  I did finish last week's hat in time...just barely. I finished it at about 9:30 Sunday night, but didn't get around to a photo shoot until today.

I worked on a good chunk of that hat on Sunday--during lunch at the Vintage.  Yes, that is a cheese curd in my Bloody Mary. Oh, how I love Wisconsin!

The creation for week 15 was a floppy brimmed sun hat. I had Squeaker out in the garden and realized that his face wasn't shaded at all. As the kid will be spending a lot of time out in the garden and in the bike trailer, a sun hat was definitely in order.

I think this should fit the bill!

It has a nice floppy brim, but doesn't seem to bother him.

It has a nice picot-edging to the brim and a super long I-cord forming the ties.
I love the color! It's Peruvian cotton...oooh.....aahhh. It should be perfect for a summer outdoors!

Take care,
Kate
